Black Skirt-Oxford and Regent. White Button Down-Converse by Target. Hat-Thrifted. Heels-Target.

So I bought this black skirt not realizing how short it really was. Sounds impossible, I know. I think when I tried it on I wasn't wearing at my waist, but at my hips. Scooting a skirt up from your hips to your waist can take it up a lot apparently. I guess I should wear it with black leggings next time when its cooler, although I may not be able to wait that long. Judging by today's Texas heat, it feels like Fall may never come. Oh, and my arms are not disappearing half way. This skirt has awesome pockets!

I bought this old man-ish fedora from a thrift store quite a few years ago. Originally I got it because it was less than a dollar and I needed something to hold my hair up the the summer heat. But back then my hair was long and reached my lower back, now it barely touches my shirt collar in the back. I've been wanting a more bucket shaped feminine version of this hat for winter. Like the ones women wore in the 20's. Something like this. Not sure whether in black or gray.

I've come to the point where I really want to come into my own sense of style. Rumi of FashionToast once said that a sign of coming into your own style is when things you bought years ago you still love today. Having gone through so many phases clothing wise in my life, I definitely don't have this yet.

Here's hoping that it will happen soon,

God Save The [New] Queen

Going through my style inspiration folder, I realized that I have quite a collection of Taylor Momsen photos. With her character on Gossip Girl, Jenny Humphrey, poised to take over as Queen, her style looks like its gotten even fiercer in the third season. Perhaps its my obsession with leather jackets that has me looking at her attire with envy.

That and I wish I were the front woman of my own band that sounded a bit like the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. I've listened to a few demos from The Pretty Reckless and was surprised. Is is rather sad that I am jealous someone's style who is 4 years younger than me? Am I the only one totally enamored with Miss Humphrey's recent threads? What do you think?

Two Decades Today

Dress-Karen Millen. Clutch-Forever21. Heels-White House Black Market.

So I am not sure what exact time I was born, but I will go ahead and assume that as of midnight yesterday I am now 20 years old. Yep. Its my birthday today! I turned two decades old in the company of my best friend at Whataburger eating french fries and gravy after our long tax-free weekend shifts at the mall.

Miss Dee gave me a number of things on my birthday list that include a hair dryer, Arrested Development Seasons 1 and 2, Breakfast at Tiffany's, and a pair of pretty turquoise earrings. I am a pretty happy chica. I've actually never watched Breakfast at Tiffany's (which is kind of a shocker I know for a girl) and finally got to see it while doped up on pain-killers from my wisdom teeth removal. I loved the movie. But on those meds, I think I loved everything at that point.

I can't get over Holly Golightly's Givenchy gown. I mean I know that Audrey Hepburn is the LBD icon, but that specific dress is like none I've ever encountered. That Givenchy dress is sleek, well cut, classy, and dramatic. And so I decided to post the outfit closest to it that I have. This Karen Millen dress was given to me by a special someone and I think the shape, color, and cut of straps in the back resemble Miss Golightly's most iconic gown.

Gladiators and Piranhas

Today was the second day of birthday celebrations. My best friend and frequent photographer of my blog, the beautiful Miss Dee had her birthday yesterday on August 12th. Her cousin Nikki and I actually have the exact same birthday on August 22nd. As opposed to our more modest celebration at Applebee's yesterday, all three of us went to downtown Fort Worth for some sushi at Piranha's.

Despite starting off getting our picture taken by some guy who clearly didn't know how to work Dee's camera, we had a pretty good time. Not that I don't appreciate the guy's offer, but he was the one who persisted on taking our photo and managed to both crop out our feet and blow out the background. Guess I'm just being picky.

The night was a great opportunity for me to wear the black gladiator wedges that I decided to order from Forever21. Thank you all for your input on this decision :] The greatest thing about my black shirt dress is that it has huge pockets! And recently managed to find a denim jacket in a nice wash at a small thrift store in C-Stat.

Since yesterday was Dee's 21st birthday she got to order an alcoholic beverage. Her drink was a 'Donkey Show' with a wedge of lime and Nikki's drink is the pink concoction behind it. The sushi was amazing and the eggrolls were delicious. I feel like I'm burning out my birthday celebrations already and my actual birthday has yet to arrive.

Today's post will be my last for a few days. I am getting my wisdom teeth pulled tomorrow morning. Joy. Since I'll be on all sorts of pain killers and anti-biotics for a while, I decided to make this post a long one. As on Mythbusters, its always best to go out with a bang.

A Vogue Darkroom

Skirt-Forever21. T-shirt-Kohl's. White Belt- Charlotte Russe. Black Wedges- Target.

I recently wore my paint strokes skirt from Forever21 to a friend's birthday party. After an amazing Italian pasta dish and a positively evil tiramisu, everyone went dancing on the top of a parking garage on campus. I decided to test out the twirly-ness of my skirt.

In my film photography class I took over the summer I thought of an idea for decorating my room in the new apartment. Just like photography prints are pinned up on strings to dry, I decided to clip up magazine prints on ribbons above my bed.

My favorite pages come from Vogue, Elle, Nylon, and W magazines. And say hello to my little blue octopus friend Squidy!
